about next door, decided to put in an appearance anyway, in the vain hope she would possibly offer to correct some of the inadequacies in his dress. Susan, on seeing the rather sad appearance her son made, in his first attempt to dress femininely, was sorely tempted to make the few simple adjustments that were obviously necessary, and

which she so easily could have done, but, again, hardening her heart, ignored completely his appearance, nor did she in any way comment on how he was dressed. Instead, her only comment, was to ask if he had finished putting his clothes away. On receiving his reply in the negative, she told him to finish that task later, as he should immediately start on his house cleaning chores, as had earlier proposed doing.

Jan, in some embarrassment, had to confess that he had not even started putting his new clothes away, but had spent all the past hour in getting dressed. This remark had amused his mother considerably, although she carefully concealed her reaction, for she could well picture the struggles he must have gone through, handling the garments in which he was now so poorly arrayed.

In response to his promise that he would finish putting his clothes away that evening, she merely remarked, that if he would follow her, she would show him where all the house cleaning materials were kept, so that he could get to work without further unnecessary delay or conversation.

After almost three hours of intensive house cleaning, that Jan did not find nearly as enjoyable as he had anticipated, probably because he felt that he was still not properly dressed his mother told him he could stop for lunch. As he put in an appearance in the kitchen, his mother commented in a critical tone of voice, that he must learn to garter his stockings more tightly to his girdle, as they were too loose and wrinkled.

Also, that she did not ever want to see him in the future in the house looking that way again. Further, that he must learn how to properly fasten the zippers of his dresses, as the way his present dress was now gaping open at the back was very sloppy indeed, and would not be tolerated, She instructed him to return to his room at once to correct these deficiencies before eating lunch.

Jan immediately went again to his room, and after first shedding his dress, managed after much struggling, to properly garter his stockings, but only at the cost of still another run. In addition, he also managed to completely fasten the zipper of his dress, by first pulling this over his head part way so that he could reach far enough in pulling the zipper all the way. However, even though his dress was now properly fastened, and his stockings sufficiently taut so that they were no longer loose or wrinkled, on again looking at himself in the mirror, he found that he
